Midjourney 101: Fast-Track to Stunning AI Visuals
Midjourney is a powerful AI-driven tool that can elevate your creative projects and help unlock greater creative potential. Whether you're a Beginner or Seasoned Pro–there are always new tricks to learn!
This article will reveal 5 Essential Tips to help you fully harness Midjourney’s capabilities, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in digital art.
1. Using Reference Images in Prompts
If you’re not a native speaker (like me) or if you struggle with describing visuals–I have an awesome trick for you: using reference images in prompts. It's super cool and makes the creation process so much easier.
All you need to do is find an image for Midjourney as a starting place for color, composition, lighting and subject matter. Then, insert the image’s URL at the beginning of your prompt.
Extra Tips:
1. Use multiple images for even more unique results.
2. Pair your image with a detailed prompt for more precise creations.
3. Ensure the URL is a direct link to the image online, ending in .png, .gif, .webp, .jpg, or .jpeg (Right-click on the image and select “Copy image address”).
4. If you don’t get the desired result, don’t give up. Experiment with different references and prompts.
2. Blend Option
Have a bunch of reference images and want to combine them? The Blend Tool allows you to merge 2-5 images–creating a unique and cohesive new visual by combining their concepts and aesthetics.
Unlike using a single visual as a reference–Blend works without any additional description required–making it convenient for use on mobile devices.
Simply use the ‘/blend’ command, upload 2 to 5 images, and get your result. If needed, specify the aspect ratio: default is 1:1, but you can choose portrait (2:3) or landscape (3:2) from the list.
Extra Tip: use images with similar aspect ratios for the best results.
3. Style Reference Feature
If you find a reference image that perfectly captures the vibe and atmosphere you want in your art but has a different plot, don’t worry. Use it as a style reference. This allows you to maintain the aesthetic of the reference image while creating different settings and characters in your artwork.
How to Use Style References:
1. Add Style References: Use the --sref parameter followed by the image URL in your prompt.
2. Combine Multiple Styles: You can add multiple style references to merge different aesthetics.
3. Adjust Style Weight: Use the --sw parameter to control the strength of the style influence.
4. Describe Feature
If you are ready to generate something cool, but don’t know where to start, try ‘/describe’ command in Midjourney. It will generate 4 unique text prompts based on the image you upload.
It helps spark creativity by suggesting detailed descriptions that can be refined and customized. Additional benefit: by analyzing the generated prompts, you can understand how to craft better prompts for your projects.
5. Vary Region
If you have a good initial result, but want to alter a specific area, there’s no need to start all over. Use the Vary Region tool–it allows you to refine selected areas your upscaled image to then re-prompt.
Here's how to make the most of it:
1. Create and upscale an image using /imagine and the U buttons.
2. Click Vary (Region) to open the editor.
3. Use selection tools to choose parts to regenerate. You can also edit your promt at this point.
4. Submit your job and view the new variations.
For best results, experiment with different selections and rerun several times.
